Firewise
The national Firewise USA® program provides a collaborative framework to help neighbors in a geographic area get organized, find direction, and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes and community and to reduce wildfire risks at the local level. Firewise USA offers a variety of resources to assist and educate homeowners and other wildfire stakeholders as they travel down the path to wildfire risk reduction. Use the links below to learn more about Firewise USA, best practices for wildfire remediation, and current research regarding different components of the home, their vulnerabilities, and recommendations to reduce risk. You may also want to visit the Firewise USA website directly.
A reminder: Activities in greenbelt areas still require consultation and possible approval from the Architectural Control Committee (ACC).
This toolkit provides key information and participation tips for homeowners and communities to take action to reduce wildfire risks at the local level.
Dr. Jack Cohen, Fire Science Researcher with the USDA Forest Service, explains current research about how homes ignite during wildfires, and the actions that homeowners can take to help their home survive the impacts of flames and embers.
NFPA and the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) have developed a Wildfire Research Fact Sheet series featuring the wildfire research being done at the IBHS research facility to create more resilient communities.
