The Book Club was formed in June 2003 and since that beginning we have read around 1200 books, all paperbacks including both fiction and non-fiction. A sample of some of the books we’ve read over the years include: The Life of Pi, The Secret Life of Bees, Cry the Beloved Country, The Kite Runner, The Professor and the Madman, Woman of the Silk, Memoirs of an Unexpected Life by Queen Noor, The Jane Austen Book club, Sarah’s Key, Cutting for Stone, The Angle of Repose, The Book Thief, His Mother’s Son, Marley & Me, Night, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Devil in the White City, The Soloist, The Girls of Atomic City, Where’d You Go Bernadette.
Each member reads the monthly selection, and one member volunteers to research the author and lead the discussion. In the words of our founder: “Enjoy your reading and remember, if you don’t like the monthly selection, or if you didn’t finish the book, it doesn’t matter. Come to the meeting to hear other people’s thoughts and perceptions of the book. We’re not going to be too serious about what we’re doing and there will be absolutely “No Pop Quizzes at the meetings. Let’s have fun!!”
We do have fun while speaking, listening, and enjoying coffee and goodies. We meet the 2nd Thursday afternoon of the month, at 2:00 in the clubhouse conference room. Questions? Please call Beth Newell.
